So here's the thing

I'm taking ah uge leap pf faith and I need youguys to be my eyes and ears and put up a fence around me .

But this couldn't not go uncommented on

  1. because rosasparks deserved none of this NONE
  2. because it literally sits at the apex of what I am applying to grad schools for as I am deep in the applications
  3. because the more I think the more I live the more I believe in my bones community ( not shangri la lalal ish) is the only way of survival
  4. cause I'm a bitch know it all who can't keep her mouth shut

You asked me what I planned to study and i gave you some kind of convoluted deep in the middle of my syslexic genius navel . Not probably explicit but it was in there but

What I want to study is the Performance of Progress.

I hope to do this at one of those Schmancy design your own programs schooling things.

Because as the clusterfuck of privilege that is essentially new media and politics have always pulled at the two parts of me that I constantly say I am battling.

The performer and performance artist

and the pragmatist producer stage hand side complete with color coded STICKIES

But there is a deep and not being readily explored academically region of liberal politics and media and agenda building

Performance.

Much is made of the theatrics of the rise of satire but what has snatched me by my wooly fro

is how " progress " performs.

Aka what tropes of gender expression, class, sexuality, and character are reached for when we need to indicate progress of a need for progress

or in the absolute disastershines that we saw here.

The asshat I am calling him the asshat ( ryking) and the jackassjockey ( the other one) made sure to PERFRORM some very specific behaviors in new media when dealing with rosasparks.

and it is calculated to be aided by the backstage machinations of swarming , shouting and the comfort of beinga ble to intimadate some one

the devaluation of an accepted performance ( STUDY ABROAD) of progressivism.

Mind you this is a SATIRICAL blog that was swarmed in a way that they WOULD NEVER EVER SWARM a conservative, feminist,or larger progressive blog

which is then couched in

( that's a performance of blind ignorance masquerading as moral impunity)

As a theater nerd I can point out that this kind of dramatic saber rattling has roots in Shakespeare, Ibsen etc

BUT

the flip side of that is how do WOC ( my concern) experience and create progressive performance and performance of progress.

How do we shape performances of resistance and self care and love and comedy

As well

how do the elements of performance affect our ability to create sustainable art,

and transcend restrictions.

Because really there isn't a specific reason why the satirical and open positioning of this kind of ego stroking traipsing through the world BASED ON YOUR WHITENESS! i listened to a scholar talk about how he was going to revolutionize th green industry by grading indigenous tribes)

Let's be clear the real offense is taht the tumblr attacks their ability to be SERIOUS in teh face of their ACTUAL audience.

The ability to MARKET ( yes I am trying to do marketing with this) themselves as sage jesus like ( OH HOLY SWEET MARY ON THE CROSS THE ONE DUDE WITH THE HERB reference my west indian soul can only take BUT SO FUCKING MUCH)

to perform an APPEARANCE of care and concern

they seek to CREATE

NOT A MOTHERFUCKING THING

not even a responding satirical performance ( which is the USUAL response to art or work even the work you don't respect or claim not to respect but you seen to treat with much more deference and respect if it comes from white voices no matter how ridiculous.)

and how WOC ( speicfically black cause I am ) historically and currently using technology respond to those

This reminds me of what bfp said about how Tim Wise claims he quit organizing because he wasn't any good at it and how she wasn't impressed because, at the end of the day, *someone* has to take out the trash and *someone* has to distribute the literature. This has me thinking about the performative aspects of all of those roles.

YES!
because it says somethinga bout what we view work to me and what is organizing work. My currentmental state and job . Really I want to stuf envelopes organize files and marshal resources. Asking me to do anything or any of the things I'm good at wouldn't be organizing really it be BA ego stroking which is nt all bad but why is that considered successful

And the the narrative about the person whom others say "owes" the world his/her music/writing/whatever versus what we *literally* owe to people who *don't* get to have agency over their labor and movements, and how that plays out in organizing work . . . especially when the phrase "you owe the world your music/writing/whatever" actively *removes* agency from labor and movements . . .
