If we accept that people are “transgendered”, then we must accept that people are cis-gendered and that’s a trans terms which is at odds with feminism. I am suggesting that at the point that their movement started to figured things that they got stuck into this gender model sort of like peanut butter sticks to the roof of your mouth and there’s not way to get rid of it. As a model it adversely impacts women works toward making gender real when it is not real, it’s socially constructed. Trans has always been in bed with gender in ways that hurt and oppress women as anything that makes gender appear to be real will oppress women in this society. Now, heart is conflating the purest of patriarchy and consequentially is in bed with trans. Although I recognize that there are people with cross-classed identities, I don’t recognize the transgender identity as being valid all, therefore I don’t recognize cisgendered. I do see the trans movement as being the most philosophically depraved movement of all time


Thoughts in no particular order so I don't curse

First off being transgendered and cisgendered are definitives not opposites and you in no way prove your kind of offensive assertion.

Second the it hurts women has not been proven and is a common and rather weak dodge and the " i n bed with patriarchy" bit is just tired, both in terms of intellectually tired and tiring me emotionally

I'm glad McKinnon made a declaration about whether or not gender roles are important or not.

Considering as a woman and a woman of a certain privilege she has had access.

WOmen of color/disabilities/and yes transgendered women who do not have that ability can not disappear that identity JUST because it's a construct. As constructed as it is it is amazingly disrespectful and overall galling to say that a very real aspect of the oppression of WOMEN with these multi part identies doesn't exist because one theorist who makes a general habit of ignoring multiple parts of these identities decides it is so.

Not to mention , since many of my struggles as a woman of color with access to certain privileges but not others. I'd be teh first to tell you how my generally femme and gender conforming personae has helped me over other not so presented peers.

I have only met my great aunt once and she was resplendent in a sari. So much so I didn't know she was related to me.

We are originally from Barbados, were the majority of our family was " backra" . In Barbados that means white, in Jamaica Hindu.

Mom doesn't know which one they meant. Although she knows he was " high colored"

In addition many of the original overseers were Arawaks brought over from Guyana to be farmers ( white folks didn't do to good in the tropics)

All of this happened BEFORE the 1920's , when my grandfathers were born.

And it is part of an overarching unspoken rule that Black/Women's/Latin/Asian-American acheivement is SUPERCALAFRAJALISTICALLY exceptional that it must be mentioned specifically AND is small enough to be encapsulated in fixed time frame. It is also not lost on me that during this month the choices are always and I mean always conspicuously in the field of material or privilege attainment to the point that even educational pioneers are starting to be de-emphasized for the big money makers, or other bright and shiny folks with proper pedigrees.
