i caused an entire fight on pandagon and MISSED IT.
Because a woman is so incensed at my reading of sofia coppola that it too precedence over abused women and children!
But of course good feminist she is she wanted to stop the beating up on women, by slagging me and my credentials, barely reading my essays, and calling me a classist. WHILE FLAUNTING A FILM DEGREE!
But never once steppe dto ME cause others must TEACH HER.
Note to the fucking stupid.
My door is always open.
My words are always mine.
Ask me first
and we want to bandy about degrees
well ya'll know where I live.
And please say the name Blackamazon.
It won't hurt.

::passes freshly sharpened machette:::
Ah, you stumbled across that ridiculous tiff, dintcha?
I can't tell you how annoyed I was with that wielder of TWO film degrees. Indeed her behavior struck me as the epitome of Sofia Coppola feminism, though of course I can't really make that accusation as a man. But still: "My elite film degrees and hyper-knowledgeable sensitivities are FAR more important than women and children of color suffering human rights abuses".
But I let it go and moved on because I've learned that places like Pandagon aren't really for folks like us. So I touched the topic with light fingertips and went on my way, disgusted but oh well, another day, another display of white ignorance.
I'm sorry, I should have alerted you. But at the time I just didn't think it was worth your precious time and your beautiful energy which blows with rich winds of struggle and joy that cannot be granted via certificates.
aww kai i feel so loved *blushes*
I was just like lalal ooh what's this odd spike in my search terms.
Why the hell is Sofia Coppola feminism so popular
and I followed it.
Remember MUST DEFEND THE WHITE WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AT ALL COSTS
You had no rezsponsibility to alert me.When the fuck did I become the boogeyman. She wanted to smear my name but made sure she didn't grow a pair of gonads ( gender neutral) to s tep to ME. WHat teh fuck ever
I kept wanting to say to her on that thread:
Sofia Coppola's movies are racist and classist.
That's all that needed to be said. As expected, she spun it to make it about her.
belledame, unfortunately none of the Pandagon folks said anything about it, although Ilyka did chime in to support my point at the end. That was part of why I felt that Pandagon just wasn't a site for people of color, and obviously most POC have figured that out, based on the threads I see there.
The offended party, however, did see it fit to take the fight to Donna.
The original thread is here.
o christ on a crutch. she's just finding this -now?- who are we talking about, anyway?
wv: abuahvln
exactly
...so, did Amanda call her a multi-degreed asswipe, too? just curious...
And blackamazon is off to DOnna's
I somehow missed the original post of Sofia Coppola... one thing to be said for drama, at least it often leads to actual INTERESTING posts.
Lame derail of two good posts on things we can do to help women who have been hurt, though.
Hot damn, I went there and I missed all this?! You [blog] people are always beefin'! If you all would just get along, maybe we'd solve more problems.
Blogospherical madness...
Mmmph mmmph mmmph.
*runs to see it like a kid runs to candy*
*rude shannon* You would have all been informed if you had read my blog. *sniffs* But I thought mnem was a man ;_;
Mnem even said at Pandagon that she didn't bother reading what we said. Oh she just couldn't bring herself to do it once she found out we were being mean to poor poor Sofia! The wealthy powerful connected Sofia needs people like Mnem to come to the rescue. Reminds me of all those people who had to come to Angelina Jolie's rescue at Jesus General because of that meanie Nezua. This also reminds me of my rightwing looney tunes cousin's husband who must always come to the rescue of the multimillionaire/billionaire capitalists when we are discussing politics and he and my cousin are on the low end of middle class and live paycheck to paycheck.
There is something wrong with this country when the poor/middle class white folx have this overwhelming urge to rush to the defense of the wealthy and powerful.
As for not reading, I think that is often the cause of squabbles between white people and POC. A couple days ago I was wondering if white people speed read, skimming a post or article, while at the same time expecting that we all have the same or similar social, political, and cultural views. I don't know how many times I've been reading comments at a POC blog where a POC says, "Read what I actually said!" to a white person. Are they skimming or deliberately misreading and misinterpreting?
I don't remember Sofia Coppola feminism being a direct attack on Coppola anyway. Her movies are racist and classist, but she doesn't make these people heroes, or even likeable. As far as I am concerned, SC could be making a subtle argument against Sofia Coppola feminists and their precious white perfection too, in agreement with what BA said in the original post!
Donna: yeah, exactly. the knee-jerk defense of the people in power. it's a common thread weaving through a lot of seemingly unrelated phenomena, i think. it's what i was trying to tease out with this thread:
or rather the quotage from Wiki wrt right-wing authoritarianism:
It is defined as the convergence of three attitudinal clusters in an individual:
1. Authoritarian submission — a high degree of submission to the authorities who are perceived to be established and legitimate in the society in which one lives. "It is good to have a strong authoritarian leader."
2. Authoritarian aggression — a general aggressiveness, directed against various persons, that is perceived to be sanctioned by established authorities. "It is acceptable to be cruel to those who do not follow the rules."
3. Conventionalism — a high degree of adherence to the social conventions that are perceived to be endorsed by society and its established authorities. "Traditional ways are best."
What's weird is when you see that creeping out in nominally "progressive" people; but then i think it's pretty clear that a lot of political labels and identities are pretty superficial and fragile layerings over a lot of old and unexamined shit.
But, as far as people who aren't in power coming to the defense of those who are: it makes perfect sense actually, provided that at some level you have the underlying belief: to wit, the people at the top, at least "ours," must be protected, not just because we aspier to be like them someday, but because we'll die without them.
that shit's quite old, actually...
it's really rich that sofia coppola is not mentionned anywhere on that thread ABOUT WOMEN BEING SEPARATED FROM THEIR KIDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITHOUT WARNING. not only did she never address the subject of the thread she made it about sofia coppola who doesn't need any defending, herself and her husband. what that thread is about never crossed her mind. she defended the racism and classism of coppola's movies on a thread about a dire situation for poor minorities.
unintentional comedic genius.
