And yep when it comes time the feminists will come running. Bloggers will defend and make sure they assert her right to be there . But Liza's right to be heard is an after thought. And when defending her right to be heard it's about whether or not the white man should have known better. She is just emblematic of what THEY need to improve not ya know someone whose an equal who should be adressed as such.

A letter of love not so much a love letter

Yesterday was the anniversary of one of the most important days in my intellectual/emotional life. Brownfemipower celebrated her first year on the internet . There is something amazing in her in so many of you/us and you can not understand how much the discovery of this community/communities/loose collection of irritated folks has meant.

When I started blogging I had stopped a lot of things. Going out, laughing ,dancing,practicing music,practicing monologues, name an enjoyable activity I had stopped doing it. Sound like high grade depression . You'd be right.

You see less than three months earlier I had been CRUSHED.

I had no job, less prospects,no money, my friends had been scattered to the wind oh and my father had been deported as part of one of the most jingoistic moments in American history. No gradschool , little family , oh and I was fat black and ugly. And for four years of having to justify my existence and watch people try and destroy my spirit in the name of higher education.

And I found her blog . As a South American/Caribbean women of color and saints and hail marys and work ethic are in my blood more so than plasma and to see some one who spoke that part of me was amazing and so necessary.

And then this woman tried to leave .

I got on my email and I got on it fast. She was leaving after she got my teethmarks up out her ankles.

And we talked and while I imagined her as Xena crossed with Rigoberta she was a mother and she was poor and she was tired and sad and dramatic and wonderful and loving so much love I FELT IT THROUGH MY SCREEN.

And she STAYED. And my life was better for it.

As activists or people with any kind of push towards human decency we are often angry, very well sad , and addicted to working. From wherever we are however we are we fight we grieve and we scrape for our existence.

What we often are also is damaged,sad , and incredible loving. We love so hard so deeply that it can not be voiced sometimes as anything but an all consuming rage that this whatever THIS happens to be is not RIGHT. That what we love isn't supposed to have to be like this.


And often it is the loneliest business in the world. BFP and all of you who I click to and share with make that a little less lonely a little less scary and no matter something that against all experience something to believe in .

So to BFP and all of you but her specifically

It has come to my attention that your paper is publishing the names of individuals you presume to be Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender. You have painted them as " overthrowing the straight generation" and requested that " give us her name and we shall shame her".

These lesbos and gays whose lives you show so little concern for are people. Even after all of the names you call them they are people.As fearful as you portray them, every single on of them is a singular person with no real power , that is why you shame them. They are a distraction, a sleight of hand towards bigger more pressing problems.

Their shame will not make death stop, it will not make food grow, or sun shine. Their will be no gain from this , only loss. Someone's daughter,someone's son a child in the image of the creator must now fear for their lives with every new name that is published. It is not shame you seek, but violence you encourage. If it comes to cost life the only shame will be yours.

I have an enourmous ass. I do . I'm a thicky thicky thick girl. I like it . it's a two hander. Now the number one problem I have occurs in the setup . And please don't be confused it's a set up. To critique a sexist comment one MUST bring in racism because the true injustice isn't the remarkable stupid of the comment but the fact that " if it had been about brown folk " there'd be a ruckus.

The justification that will be used for his dumbass comment? Now besides the fact that it hasn't been used yet as far as I know, it also is indicative of the mindset of the author and how she perceives what Latino means. So her own analysis of his comment is racially broken down AND WE HAVEN'T LEFT THE SECOND THREE SENTENCE PARAGRAPH). The author reveals a preoccupation and complete lack of information on Latinoness ( mind you all of central america, most of south america, half the carribean all the same damn thing all Latin no differentiation among how many odd countries).

Also she expresses a bit of pique that " He would probably be fired, don’t you think?" had teh comment been about black people. Now who do you think would have lead the charge for the firing. Now Has a young urban sister I have some issues with the NAACP many more with the Urban League ( YOU LET GEORGE BUSH SPEAK ?? WHAT ?!?), but HAD Cesar Milano made that statement I would bet a grip that both organisations would have grabbed somebody and thrown a fit. They've done more for less ( Yes I am engaging in a false projection but let me set up I'll explain later)

So even in Violet's false dilemma fallacy where she conjectures one would happen and the other wouldn't and were given a choice only to disagree or agree with her absurd commentary she subtextually and later textually reveals a bias that some societal evolution and not of course the work of black people that have made this change IF and lordy I do mean IF it has occured. BEnevolent society has preferred one of the other not actually blood and tears by the marginalised. She either forgot that part or decided it wasn't important.

For a community that rides around " feminists and women" supposedly in large droves WHERE the fuck were you when Nubian and I got roasted and toasted on feministing. CONSISTENTLY WOC/TRANS/and I now am gonna add YOUNG WOMEN's blogs have been treated as carrion. Dead carcasses to be picked over for " interesting tidbits " or as " teaching spaces" while waving around your " willingness to engage solely among OTHER white " acceptable" blogs.

Read us for things to " educate" or make fun of but of course engaging us in or on our own spaces where in you will not be granted automatic deference just ain't gonna happen because god forbid you be forced in honest intellectual discussion.

The problem isn't that there aren't enough young women feminists . The problem is that there aren't enough of the " right kind" of feminists. The recruiting block was supposed to m be all of the upcoming Gloria Steinems, young Pat Califia's , Susie Brights,bell hooks,Angela Davis, Rigoberta Menchus,UBANTU"s aren't palatable or even on the radar. For all the "suffering" first and second wavers went through they want more deference form the right kind of women.
Or they'd know about the fabulous work done in Mexico by women's groups rocking a nation .

Or they'd care about the fact that as one of the most privileged groups in the WORLD and the main receivers of Affirmative Action without much if any reflection the same women they are whining about are their daughters in self absorption.

ON BFP 's blog ( she's next in the people need to meet including skyscraper PQ,KTrion,MM KAE, NAro,oh fuck it just wanna meet her) she expresses a RIGHTEOUSLY pissed off attitude on the constant petition of people to be part of a feminism that don't want them rather than look for allies where thy ya know ACTUALLY FUCKING EXIST.

Feminism and by extension la blogosphere has spent so much time OTHERING of whose not in the club whose NOT up to par I doubt than can name five people movements achievements that are up to par ( and don't involve ironic tshirt wear)
