I have an enourmous ass. I do . I'm a thicky thicky thick girl. I like it . it's a two hander. Many friends and loved ones have used it as a pillow ,a drum, a book stand, a kickboxing pad ( BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!) .It's half genetics, a quarter "Ooh I need to hit the gym" a, a quarter hello walking and stairs EVERYWHERE. Should I ever lose the weight I desire my ass will still be enourmous for my body.
I am informing people just so they know what their confronting when I say
" Kiss my big round, bubble brown, black ass"
( that opening is vegankid approved)
Now right below this post is the link( comments are now closed OF COURSE) to the ReclusiveLeftist's link/ thread so that I may let you know what prompted that.
Now the number one problem I have occurs in the setup . And please don't be confused it's a set up. It's in it's small entry full of subtextual analytical problems and sneaky removal of agency connundrums. And when we get to the comments it becomes full of things that start me looking for my vaseline and a safe place to put my earrings
To critique a sexist comment one MUST bring in racism because the true injustice isn't the remarkable stupid of the comment but the fact that " if it had been about brown folk " there'd be a ruckus.
God forbid that they get something more than "us". Now I will not be adressing the continual stupid that is the oppresion olympics(as Shannon has tackled it in her post about this though I would add Nubian's gender does not trump race to it),here.
The next problem I have is The " he's just a colorful Latino". Wow a nice little snide sarcastic slip in that ' critiques" ....... What exactly. The justification that will be used for his dumbass comment? Now besides the fact that it hasn't been used yet as far as I know, it also is indicative of the mindset of the author and how she perceives what Latino means. So her own analysis of his comment is racially broken down AND WE HAVEN'T LEFT THE SECOND THREE SENTENCE PARAGRAPH). The author reveals a preoccupation and complete lack of information on Latinoness ( mind you all of central america, most of south america, half the carribean all the same damn thing all Latin no differentiation among how many odd countries).
Also she expresses a bit of pique that " He would probably be fired, don’t you think?" had teh comment been about black people. Now who do you think would have lead the charge for the firing. Now Has a young urban sister I have some issues with the NAACP many more with the Urban League ( YOU LET GEORGE BUSH SPEAK ?? WHAT ?!?), but HAD Cesar Milano made that statement I would bet a grip that both organisations would have grabbed somebody and thrown a fit. They've done more for less ( Yes I am engaging in a false projection but let me set up I'll explain later)
So even in Violet's false dilemma fallacy where she conjectures one would happen and the other wouldn't and were given a choice only to disagree or agree with her absurd commentary she subtextually and later textually reveals a bias that some societal evolution and not of course the work of black people that have made this change IF and lordy I do mean IF it has occured. BEnevolent society has preferred one of the other not actually blood and tears by the marginalised. She either forgot that part or decided it wasn't important.
That allusion also prevents you know having to do anything or yell at anyone for it. As a WOMAN my first reaction is " NOW , LOWV, um are you guys asleep at the wheel" . Because benevolent society has evolved but "In this case, that it’s still basically okay to announce in public that women are an inferior “species” who are more emotional than men. " means it's external. Want a ruckus raise one ! As a woman I plan to and looky I can do it without mentioning any other groups gains, trials and travails cause MY CAUSE HAS MERIT ON ITS OWN!
( Mind you this is not shifting responsibility for the stupid of others, but I resent to the high holy heavens the unspoken idea that we GET shit when we FOUGHT for it)
AND THEN ( yes after all of that we get to the comments)
At this point it goes from wow that was Off to " THE STUPID IT BURNS" and is probably while this wasn't a more concillatory woowoo post and is now a point point memo on why people need to kiss my voluptous ass.
Ginmar whose entire conduct in that thread is flip and disgusting not to mention fantastically misanthropic in her appraisal of black men and disgustingly presumptious about intraracial gender politics , gets me to the promised land of finally TRYING TO PHYSICALLY CHOKE MY SCREEN with :
ginmar says:
Wow, Shannon, do some checking yourself. There’s a difference between pointing out that racism is taken more seriously in society than sexism and saying that ‘black people have it better than us.’
Now besides the inherent contradiction in terms which doesn't suprise me.If one is taken seriously than the other ( which as a member of both good god the stupid) and you're complaint is that this respect is a somewhat necessary commodity , does it or not mena that one party having more than the other is both a comparison and a value judgement where the party that is receiving less is being mistreated and has it worse than another ergo one group has it better, (One is acceptable, One isn't ). If the point is not there is a preferential balance what is it.
Also if I see one more think that being snide and sarcastic is somehow less damaging than honest anger and passion ( which almost is always along racial lines) I will commit violence! intellectual condescension and smug superiority aren't debate tacits but the marks of an entitled assine ignorance. Can't prove her wrong , then prove her dumb!
Scroll through the dicking around about alliances and voting ( HA)
Which leads us to.....
Comment 34 the golden ticket WHICH I QUOTE IN IT"S ENTIRETY ( lest I take ity out of context)
I hope that most of my readers have better comprehension skills than Shannon, but just in case I’ll clarify here: the point of my post is that sexism is more acceptable in the world than racism. This isn’t my opinion; it’s an observable fact. I’m not saying that sexism is worse than racism, or that racism has gone away; nor am I comparing the status of any oppressed groups. I’m simply pointing out — and here it is again — that sexism is more acceptable in the world than racism.
Our species has reached the point in its moral evolution where we generally agree that racism is wrong. Racism is still ubiquitous and horrible and practiced around the world, but it’s officially a Bad Thing. Sexism, on the other hand, is still regarded as an acceptable cultural variation. Many of us in the West deplore it, but in most of the world women still have sub-human status and the official global community isn’t about to do anything about it. Ethnic cleansing will get the U.N. peacekeepers on your doorstep; treat women like cattle and you’re just practicing your traditional culture.
Consider the difference between the global condemnation of apartheid South Africa, for example, and the complete absence of any censure whatsoever of Saudi Arabia or any number of other countries where women don’t have basic human rights. A woman in Saudi Arabia has about the same rights as a camel, but hey, that’s their culture. Watch the next Olympics, and note how many countries do not allow women to compete, or to compete only while wearing bags over their heads. Ask yourself what would happen if a country disallowed an ethnic minority from competing or forced its members to compete only while wearing a special Hefty Bag costume. Any such nation would of course be barred from the Games.
Again, I’m not comparing the relative badness of sexism or racism. Just pointing out where we are in our moral evolution.
First SENTENCE rather than address her points civilly she questions her intelligence and the intelligence of anyone who might find worth in Shannon's critique. She then contradicts herself because she is comparing the ammounts of a commodity and finding one receiving superior to another in receiving that commodity.
Then here the privilege raises it's head and proceeds to spill over the rest of the post and the thread :
This isn’t my opinion; it’s an observable fact.
I am trying to keep thispost shorter than my thesis proposal but that HAD to be bolded. Observable FACT.
According to what observer , according to what criteria. I'm conjecturing that as the author she is the observer which means her judgement can or cannot decide fact. She also decides that sexism ( which we haven't defined in the post) is an accepted cultural fact . IN WHAT CULTURES( that joy comes later). Many of us in the west deplore it ( The west okaay) but in most of the world ( you mean everything not First world) women are treated as cattle . ACCORDING TO WHO? The women themselves of the grand wester decision about what is acceptable treatment
Then come the comparisons .
Ethnic Cleanisng gets the US to your doorstep :
If you're in NY and you saw a small red clouds go up accompanied by what sounds like the shreik or a banshee look towards Queens
Rwanda
Darfur
Bosnia
How long did it take the UN to intervene ? Are the people who are suffering not women enough for you? the violence that befalls them WHICH INCLUDES THEIR FEMINITY doesn't make youre comparison.
Then South African apartheid and Saudi Arabia.
WOW. One as if global condemnation is worth the paper it's printed on. Two as if either party needs facile comparisons or a comparative for a sensible human being to go both are Wrong .
More importantly like the people under it need a great white hypeist to plunder their experiences to prove a facetious point AND deny them their own agency while doing it not to mention ignore the work they do and have done to flog differences in an obscenely privileged Western society.
And teh culmination the OLYMPIC GAMES. Becaus ethe chance to being jingoistic is what we really need to ask ourselves when adressing these problems.
BUT OBSERVABLE FACT. Observation we all know is dfferent in a microscope, telescope and to the naked eye. So those were my OBSERVABLE FACTS
AlaS,BL,and ABW( who I never say I love enough to) provide their own takes all of which I agree with mostly.
But here'smy "twist"( Victory to whoever gets the reference).
As people meander over to rightfully go what the fuck
Violet later in the comments thread Rejects " white liberal" for historian.
Good at least my hypothesis is correct and my exercise as well. Violet couches racial sterotyping behing a liberal viewpoint and then uses shoddy history as a way of trying to legitamize what at best is a badly though point at worst an ACTIVELY racist one .
Notice that , notice how that's the retreat notice how when speaking about the treatment of PEOPLE it is more comfortable in the "liberal " bloggosphere to measure someone's intelligence by familiarity with esoterica( class bias) or " intelligence"? ALL of which are attached to benefits and privileges garnered in all sorts of ways. Who were the main benefits of AA that seems to give OBSERVEABLE FACT POWER ( not letting it go nope never) How many will regard this post as deeper cause i through in some 50 dollar words ?
Those of you think I was to harsh.
Think how that feels every day of your life. Think how that feels no matter how smart, or qualified you are. Figure out how civil you feel like being after protracted exposure , think how many times you can curl up in tears as people spring board of your body and your struggles and how many times you can get called a fool. Think about uprooting your people, think about killing your people, think about forceably converting you're people, in some cases think about ELIMINATING you're people and think about it everyone making an academic exercise about a motherfucking dog trainer and Olympic competitions
Tell me how kind you want to be?
Think about it and while you'e thinking

How is is that every time i read about this, Violet has said something even more jawdroppingly racist?
Did she note that in each of her "examples" of rescued nations...
They didn't get aid in any substantial amount (Darfur), or got it when it was waaay too late (Bosnia, Rwanda)?
It's a damning list, just not for reasons intended.
thanks for this BA. I updated to point to it because you make important argument about the erasure of human struggle from the narrative of evolution, not to mention the way third world countries were used as horrendously sexist as if the US and other imperialist nations played no role in preventing women's liberation struggles.
this essay needs to go in the next feminist carnival too. and obviously the RWOC carnival.
YES YES YES
And I love you, too.
Thank you for your post regarding this. I went and added my two cents as well. I suppose I should have guessed she'd resort to the "all you colored folks are in cahoots with each other" assertion eventually.
As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to write a post on this myself. This is just another variation of the same sort of privilege that allows mainstream (i.e. white) feminists to feel okay about themselves despite harboring ideas that propagate racism.
Damn. This is on point.
Don't stop...
Victory!
And you know what, finally, yeah. I'd kind of glossed over her stuff wrt race, among other things, but this is just...yeah. Not getting it. On an epic scale. No, it was there.
And you know, I do believe that this is the first time she's received any sort of substantial let's say interest from POC. Commenters? Links? Readers, even? I dunno, but if there were, there weren't many.
Which may have something to do with why it was easier to gloss over, alas.
Well, let's see. Do a bit of good. I could be wrong, but I don't believe she was even aware of the existence of a lot of the bloggers currently pissed off at her.
Among other things.
Which is not to say that she couldn't have if she'd wanted to, or that this will particularly necessarily lead to any sort of satori.
Yeah, I don't know. There was the Thailand thing; and okay the ignorant stuff about rap and rappers, okay that's practically boilerplate for a certain demographic if really seriously annoying, hadn't seen it for a while, haven't -been- there for a while, and then defending g-m-r even after all that mess but you figure, people have their own reasons...
well, yeah, they do, sure.
-sigh-.
and speaking of the Sticky One, g-r, for the love of god and little plastic baubles DO NOT ENGAGE. no matter how tempted you are. it will be far more trouble than it's worth to pry her jaw off your ankle.
listen to Belledame. she knows.
Wow. I just read the original post at Recursive Leftist and then found my way over here. It's too bad she closed her comments. I feel like I arrived late on the scene. The mantra "there is no hierarchy of oppressions or of oppression acceptance" kept floating through my head.
How can a white woman (or any white person for that matter) say that racism is less accepted than sexim? How would she know? And then to have the nerve to say that's it's a fact!
Suzanne Pharr's "Common Elements of Oppressions" should be required reading for all white folks.
Aww yall are so nkind to think of me but part of me is old school yardie fowl. I LIKE FIGHTS . Shit someo f you knwo what ive been through you think a desktop warrior frightens me but then again not trying to you knoengage the crazy
Eric, you really made me do a double-take. At first I thought you'd called her "Reclusive Leftist" but when I read what it actually said, I had to agree. Her assertions do seem to be a bit recursive to say the least.
Cuse ithe only stupid question is one unasked?
Is recursive ( at leats in teh contextof this ) qualitatively different from repetitive?
Cause i had no idea what it meant and when looking it up the definition ws shoddy
>To critique a sexist comment one MUST bring in racism because the true injustice isn't the remarkable stupid of the comment but the fact that " if it had been about brown folk " there'd be a ruckus.>
Nutshell with the original problem. Is there some particular reason one needs to pull this sort of gambit in the damn first place? if it's -not- about racism then o.k. but then pray tell, why even bother? It's really important that "sexism trumps racism?" I just honestly don't see any other way to read it than that, at best, even if assuming yes, okay, she's not saying racism doesn't exist (we um see that) or matter or whatnot. -Why-? And I know, BL has explained it is part of the grand unifying theory of this brand of radical feminism, primary oppression, yadda, but you know, i could have -sworn- i specifically remembered VS saying she did in fact believe in intersections...
shrug. at a certain point maybe it really does come down to, well who is speaking and "what's my motivation"? i can't honestly say except that, well, it is an always has been a pretty homogenous place in that regard, her blog. not a -bad- place, just...well, like i said. really? never even HEARD of any of these bloggers? really? and no, hello, I don't think Bint is Shannon's "friend," especially, and way to trivialize the whole damn thing: oh, okay! no serious concerns here! it's all about high school! and wacky women who for whatever -strange- reason are DETERMINED to see racism where there is none! as opposed to sexism which is -always- there when we say it is, it's axiomatic really, and...
brain hurts.
and what sly said. unfortunately.
and oh yeah, hadn't even noticed till i reread at Bint's (does anyone else find her comment box loading like REAL-L-Y SLOWLY?) that she'd nuked the last two comments before freezing.
Which, SERIOUSLY, wtf?
once again: she has let threads far more rancorous, even toward her personally (at least for a bit) stand and go on for far longer.
this was a damn tea party. till she shut it down.
i am morbidly imagining what might have happened (and for all i know already is, meanwhile not very far away) had oh say MaxJulian wandered by while it was still open.
i could be wrong, but i think "recursive" has the connotation of "disappearing up its own asshole" whereas "repetitive," not necessarily so much.
oh, yeah, and as here, i, too, have posted many comments in a row, yes, there too, many MORE than five, and she's never said a dickie-bird.
>he's just a colorful Latino". Wow a nice little snide sarcastic slip in that ' critiques" ....... What exactly. The justification that will be used for his dumbass comment? Now besides the fact that it hasn't been used yet as far as I know, it also is indicative of the mindset of the author and how she perceives what Latino means>
o christ and that too yes.
dear god give me strength, i don't know.
Ilyka D. is picking at this very delicately, you know, i think at least somewhat inclined to say something along the lines of, "so not racist, but maybe you might have you know phrased it better, if -all- these people are having a problem..."
which, well, i'm feeling less delicate, but i say pretty much what i've said elsewhere,
and then Gawd help me one of her other regulars who is some sort of neo-paleocon and nasty to boot, whom ironically enough i'd flamed myself not long ago chez moi for, well, roughly what you note, above, basically accusing Amanda (still with me here?), who, whatever else i think of her, was probably not thinking "I hate kikes" when she wrote some critique of Israeli policy. nonetheless that is what girlfriend decides to put in her virtual mouth (well, irony is ironic, as we later see), i think also girlfriend has some sort of hate-on for Amanda, and but when i call her out on it drops by with insinuating that i am "only" an ethnic Jew and therefore am, well, what? anyway girlfriend is not about to apologize, i just missed the sarcastic part and oh yes she is more of a friend to the Jews than i, i guess, because she is rabidly foamingly pro-Israel and anti-Moslem and can quote Talmud at me. you know, one of the foaming pro-war smite my enemies bits, surprise. justice over mercy. some shit.
i'm all, lemon drop, do NOT tell me what i can or cannot be offended by, and plus, you know what, your fly's unzipped, now piss off. well roughly.
i mean i think the British Israelites (you know, Aryan Nations) are pretty hep to the Old Testament, vengeance n shit, also the Reconstructionists, scary-ass Handmaid's Tale People, you know; and yet SOMEHOW i'm not feeling like i want to go running to them for protection vs. the big bad anti-Semites who might not think Israel can do no wrong, ever.
ANYWAY. flash forward to NOW, i say my piece and add something to the effect of "well, and if the point is that overt sexism is more acceptable than overt racism, well perhaps, but where? Context matters; you cannot just say the whole entire world. so okay, a locker room with a full diversity of men; sure, i expect sexism (overt) may well be more acceptable there.
ON the other hand, let's say oh, and sadly i have more personal experience with this sort of scenario, table full of nice polite white ladies sitting in a cafe (a real one, as opposed to these virtual salons) earnestly discussing these matters, completely oblivious to the fact that 1) they are in fact all white and fairly let's say comfortable and 2) someone who isn't is waiting not-so-patiently for them to finish their damn coffee and go so she can go home already and her ass is aching both from wanting to go home -and- from overhearing this bullshit about -just how much more- sexism matters than anything else, with a couple of well, okay, probably NOT quite so "overt" as the sort of talk one might hear in a locker room, but then again, one recalls, these are POLITE. ladies. yessss.
and so then she finally can't take it anymore and joins in the conversation, just a little bit angry, and now how d'you suppose table for four reacts? Why, I am thinking not too differently from right here. "What? It spoke? But, this was not in the scenario, I, conFUsion, and...oh she is NOT SUGGESTING WE ARE BAD PEOPLE, IS SHE???? she CAN'T be, we'll KILL her."
and sure: could just as well have said "overheard at the next table," in this particular context, but you know, there is a point: there is just you know something rather precious about these civilized discussions about all these barbaric Other Places and how much less acceptable overtly expressed racism is these days compared to sexism and class? who? what? huh? where? and they speak, these peoples what we are studying? how quaint. not very good at it, are they? all right, thanks very much, that will be ALL, and no, we're not leaving a tip either, that was RUDE.
so i sez this or suchlike and Miz PaleoNeoCOn Brain Trust, who has no doubt been waiting for such an opportunity ever since i flamed her lo these many weeks ago, crows, aha! now we see the racism inherent in the system, i mean YOU. why, i see "non-melanin-challenged" servers waiting upon darker peoples all the time!
lovely. and i see dead people. and your p--
i sez, well, yes, so do i, for all i know i may well be joining their ranks soon, the non-mel-ohwhatever the fuck you stupid feck, servers, well i mean it'd suck because i tend to drop shit and not multitask real well, ANYWAY, point being however where -I- live, here on Earth uhm i mean in NYC, i have perceived certain let's say patterns among who works where when, and in roughly what percentages. Have you noticed?
oh wait, on second thought, don't answer that, please: this is after all the same woman not only with the "kikes" but something or other about how Latino dog trainer guy can't speak English? something? gender is biological, race is a myth, therefore it all makes perfect sense, QED? can't bear it, and i recall really irate about the notion that OUR money should go to such commiesymp notions as public schools and public parks, and now on with the gender vs sex haha, silly me, i can't even make up my mind, which is it? sex or gender! and now you dear lord help me have brought up the term "transgender" as though you have any fucking clue what you are talking about and i have actually answered you as though you are a real person and now god help me you'll probably answer BACK, WHY, God, WHY? do i do this to myself?
and why dear God couldn't you give me a -minute- before that friendly reminder that as teeth-grinding as "liberals" oh wait RADICAL "lefties" are when it comes to this shit, well hahahahaha, get a load of THIS shit on the OTHER side of the aisle...
ohwhatever, i'm all, sure! okay! yes! i am racist, no doubt, that much. certainly probably no more or less so than all the other people pretending not to be racist, at any rate. AND a Bad Jew, AND an anti-Zionist, and now apparently i do not understand sex and gender OR being Jewish as well as you, either, straight frothing keyboard warrior Christian woman in the middle of fucking nowhere with springs comin' out her head. "But I'm good company." and YOU OMFG are SUCH. AN. ASSSSSHOOOOOOOOLLLLLEEEEEEEE...
um, sorry, minor demon possession attack, carry on.
erm BA were you saying you didn't understand why i was friends with you on account of -you- are evil?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
well perhaps. perhaps.
clearly i don't know myself real well...
i must just need to do more SELF EXAMINING
SOMEONE FETCH ME THE SPELUNKING TOOLS AND THE HEADLAMP, I'M A GOIN'-IN...
why, look! i found Jesus! and my old hairbrush! and, well, don't even know what THAT is, but...
"a bias that some societal evolution and not of course the work of black people that have made this change IF and lordy I do mean IF it has occured"
In light of something I wrote the other day, this really hit home through my thick skull. Thank you for writing this, it makes more sense to me put this way than it has in many other ways I've seen this issue discussed.
That was shocking. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so totally lacking in self-awareness.
Even after she and g went on about how black men can use sexism to their advantage and all men are in on it together, she couldn't make the connection that maybe white women can use racism to their advantage, too? Maybe sometimes they're all in it together in this thing called white privilege?
Not even after she said that all the illiterates were coming in just to drum up some phony racism to feed their industry because that's what they DO, did that little lightbulb light up.
I'm sure, though, that if anyone had said that women go out of their way to find things to be hysterical about because they're just that sensitive and always trying to make trouble for well meaning nonmisogynists, that wouldn't have gone over well.
Not even if someone just explained that anyone who objects to that statement has a reading cmprehension problem and I'm not sexist so that solves that and tra la.
